All the savvy, sensible, smart folks I’ve spoken to about blogging have made the same recommendation. Choose a specific subject to blog about, a specialty, a niche. Then write often, and stay focused on your topic.
I’ve wasted enough hours trying to narrow down what I want to write about.
It’s come to this: I enjoy the company of too many wonderful things to write about just one (yes, I am easily distracted by shiny objects). If this makes my field of vision too broad for the blogosphere, too bad. At this point I have no readers, so I’m writing for me. And me likes lots of things, though I promise you that talking like the Cookie Monster is generally not one of them.
When scrambling around in my head for a domain name to register, I attempted to find an umbrella under which to house all my darlings. As the sunlight disappeared over my neighbour’s rooftop for the third day, I realised that there was just one thing my interests had in common.
They’re all artsy pursuits.
They involve creativity. Making stuff. Real stuff, imagined stuff. Images and words, textiles and tangents. A delicious artsy soup of bubbling imaginings.
And oftentimes, complete nonsense.
